Hurricane Katrina Pictures

The following pictures were taken one week after Hurricane Katrina had done its damage, and the staff was able to get to the library and see how much damage had been done to the library itself. The library received over 3 1/2 feet of water throughout the entire first floor of its building and into the adjoining children’s wing. Many items of furniture from the adult wing were, in fact, found in the children’s wing. Shelving had collapsed, chairs had been washed away as if they were never there, yet, posters remained on walls, the children’s pet fish, Dewey, was still alive, and above all, the library was able to come back.
